The Analects, read as the dialogue it is
The Analects is not a book someone sat down and wrote. It is what the disciples gathered after Confucius died — his sayings, and the exchanges he had with the people around him, collected across twenty books. There is no plot to follow; you read one passage at a time and turn it over. This app draws from all twenty books, from Xue Er to Yao Yue — 96 lessons, kept in the order of the original, so working through them is working through the Analects in sequence. After the twenty books come 20 supplementary lessons gathering famous chapters the main course left out — 121 passages across 116 lessons in all.
This is a selection, not the complete text: no book is skipped, and the passages chosen stay in the original order.

These are the words of someone who lived two and a half thousand years ago, and they speak in the language of that society — ruler and minister, father and son, the rites of mourning and sacrifice. Nothing is removed; the commentary says which age's words these were and what they can mean for a reader now.
The library holds eight short essays around the Analects: how a book Confucius never wrote came together, his seventy-three years traced through the lessons, the ten disciples, the commentaries of Zhu Xi and Dasan, and the reading order of Joseon village schools. Open any of them at any point in your progress.
