사략(史略)은 원나라 증선지(曾先之)가 열여덟 사서를 간추려 엮은 십팔사략(十八史略)을 조선에서 부르던 이름입니다. 천자문으로 글자를 익히고 소학으로 몸가짐을 배운 아이가, 비로소 이야기가 있는 문장을 읽는 첫 책이 이것이었습니다. 서당에서는 통감(通鑑)과 함께 문리(文理)를 틔우는 책으로 삼았지요. 관포지교, 순망치한, 와신상담, 위편삼절, 완벽, 문경지교, 낭중지추 — 우리가 오늘도 쓰는 말들이 여기서 나왔습니다. 이 앱은 태고의 천황씨에서 진(秦)의 분서갱유까지, 고사성어의 출전이 되는 구절을 골라 16과 17구절로 담았습니다. 한 과가 하나의 고사(故事)입니다.
Saryak is the Korean name for the Shiba Shilüe, the digest of eighteen dynastic histories compiled by Zeng Xianzhi in the Yuan. In Korea it was the book you opened after the Thousand Character Classic and the Lesser Learning — the first text where the characters you had learned finally told a story. Many phrases still in daily use begin here: the friendship of Guan and Bao, lips gone and teeth cold, sleeping on brushwood and tasting gall. This app draws 17 passages across 16 lessons, from the mythical first emperor to the burning of the books under Qin. Each lesson is one story.

사략은 왕조의 흥망을 통해 다스림의 이치를 가르치던 책입니다. 걸(桀)의 주지육림이나 시황제의 분서갱유처럼 폭정을 경계로 삼은 대목이 있고, 천명(天命)으로 왕조의 교체를 설명하는 옛 사관의 시각도 그대로 남아 있습니다. 지우지 않고 싣되, 새김에 그것이 어느 시대의 관점이었는지 밝히고 그 일이 어떤 결과로 이어졌는지 함께 적어 두었습니다. 또한 이번 분량은 상고(上古)에서 진(秦)까지의 발췌입니다. 한(漢)과 삼국 이후는 앞으로 채워 갈 계획입니다.
Saryak teaches statecraft through the rise and fall of dynasties, so tyranny and its consequences are part of the record — the pools of wine, the burning of the books. The old historian's framework, in which heaven withdraws its mandate from a bad ruler, is left in place as well. Nothing is removed; the commentary says which age's view this was and where each story led. This first release covers antiquity through the Qin. The Han and the Three Kingdoms are still to come.
