요·순·우·탕·문·무의 말을 원문으로 읽는 서경 The Book of Documents — the words of the sage kings, in the original
The Book of Documents is the oldest record of government in East Asia — the speeches, charges and oaths of rulers and ministers from the legendary Yao and Shun down through the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, gathered by genre: canons, counsels, instructions, announcements, oaths and commands.
Where the Four Books teach how to be a person, the Documents teach how to govern. The Great Learning, the Analects and Mencius all quote them, and Korean kings read them aloud in the royal lecture before debating policy.
This app carries all fifty-eight chapters of the received text — the Documents of Yu, Xia, Shang and Zhou — as 149 passages across 71 lessons, 2,695 characters.

The Documents are a thousand years older than the Four Books, and they read like it: ancient offices, institutions and place names appear unglossed, and the language of proclamation repeats itself to drive a point home. Of the 2,695 characters of text, 772 are seen for the first time — roughly one in three.
Some characters are also read one way only in this book. The app carries both the dictionary's standard reading and the reading proper to that chapter. The Chinese is set in a serif face subsetted to cover every rare character in the text.
